Ananya Prasomsuk

Bangkok · Divorce Counsel

I was not sure how to even start. I contacted Mettatham after a difficult few months and they explained everything so clearly that I finally felt like I understood my situation. The whole process took longer than I hoped, but that was down to my circumstances — not them. They were patient with me throughout.

Bangkok (British expat) · Custody Arrangements

As someone not originally from Thailand, I was worried about navigating the legal system here. Mettatham explained how Thai custody law works in plain English without making me feel like I was behind. The arrangement we ended up with was sensible and genuinely focused on what was best for our daughter.

Wang Thonglang · Family Mediation

We came for mediation hoping to avoid a formal dispute, and that is what we achieved. The sessions were calm and the mediator never took sides. I came in feeling quite tense about the whole thing and left each session feeling like something had actually shifted. It took three sessions to reach an agreement, but it was worth taking the time.

Lat Phrao · Divorce Counsel

I appreciated that nobody pushed me to make fast decisions. When I was unsure about a particular document, my advisor took the time to go through it with me line by line. It is a small thing, maybe, but it made a real difference to how I felt about the whole experience.

Bangkok · Child Support Arrangements

I came on my own, without my former partner agreeing on much. Mettatham helped me understand what I could reasonably ask for and how to present my son's needs clearly. The support calculation guidance was particularly useful — I had no idea where to start with that.

Bangkok (Australian) · Family Mediation

Mediation was not something I had thought about before. My Thai family members suggested it, and I am glad we tried it before going further. The mediator managed the conversation really well — he would gently redirect things when they started to become heated, without it feeling controlling. We got to an outcome that both sides could live with.

Case Studies

A closer look at three situations

Details have been changed to protect privacy. These reflect the types of situations we commonly encounter.

Uncontested divorce with property questions

Timeline: approximately 6 weeks

Challenge

A couple had agreed to separate but were uncertain about how their jointly-owned Bangkok condominium should be handled. Neither wanted a court process if it could be avoided.

How We Helped

We explained the options for marital property under Thai law, drafted a property division agreement, and accompanied both parties to the district office for the mutual consent divorce registration.

Outcome

Divorce completed at district level without court involvement. Both parties left with documented agreement on the property and a clear record of the outcome.

International custody arrangement across two countries

Timeline: approximately 3 months

Challenge

One parent was relocating from Bangkok to Europe. The couple needed a custody arrangement that accounted for different school terms, long-haul travel, and maintaining a meaningful relationship for their child with both parents.

How We Helped

We walked through how Thai courts approach international relocation cases and helped the parents develop a practical schedule. We also advised on how to structure the formal agreement so it could be recognised in both countries.

Outcome

A written agreement was reached and registered through the Thai family court. Both parents felt the arrangement genuinely reflected their child's needs, not just their own preferences.

Sibling inheritance dispute resolved through mediation

Timeline: approximately 5 weeks

Challenge

Three adult siblings had different expectations about a family property following the death of a parent. Communication had broken down and no one wanted to escalate to a formal legal dispute.

How We Helped

We met with each sibling separately first to understand their real priorities. In the joint sessions, we focused on what each person actually needed rather than their stated positions, which helped unlock a workable path.

Outcome

An agreement was reached without court involvement. The family retained their relationship, which had been at risk. All three parties signed a written record of the outcome.
